Tesla Breaks Ground In Reno

Tesla has confirmed that Reno is a finalist in the competition for a new factory to produce batteries for electric cars.  Tesla also announced that it will partner with Panasonic in the construction of cylindrical lithium-ion cells for the batteries.  In May, Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, said his company was breaking ground on multiple sites nationally, with the intention of minimizing delays when a factory site was chosen.

Today’s announcement confirms that Reno is one of the cities where ground has been broken.  Tesla may announce its final site selection as soon as this week.  Its factory is expected to lead to the creation of 6,500 jobs.
