Public Critical Of Martinez Dismissal

At a public hearing last night, critics of the Washoe County School Board's decision to dismiss superintendent Pedro Martinez included Nevada First Lady Kathleen Sandoval.  More than fifty people made comments about the action, and most were critical.  Ms. Sandoval said the decision could cost the state federal grants and could cause businesses to hesitate before moving to Nevada, citing an uncertain regional attitude toward education.

Martinez has filed a suit over his dismissal, and the board said last night that they had retained outside legal counsel.
