Nevada Schools Get Exemption

Nevada schools are getting another exemption from the federal No Child Left Behind Act requirements.

State Superintendent Dale Erquiaga said Thursday that the waiver for the 2014-2015 school year will allow Nevada to continue on the path of implementing standards-based teaching and performance assessments for students and educators. Officials with the U.S. Department of Education say they're pleased with Nevada's progress carrying out reforms, and will allow the state even more flexibility if it stays on track to implement teacher and administrator evaluation systems.

Under the George W. Bush law 100-percent of students would have to pass state tests starting this year.
