Lawmaker Wants To End Term Limits

A state lawmaker has filed a bill draft request to abolish term limits. Yesterday State Sen. Tick Segerblom filed the request in the Legislature to end term limits for state and local candidates. Segerblom says term limits are a failed experiment that hinders lawmakers from making progress on tough policy issues. State legislators and local politicians currently can serve for only 12 years in a position under the voter approved constitutional amendment on term limits.

Segerblom also is proposing a repeal of the requirement of a two-thirds majority vote to raise taxes in the Legislature.
