Fire Crews Work To Protect Sequoias

Fire crews are working to keep a blaze in Yosemite National Park away from a grove of treasured giant sequoia trees. A park spokesman said there was no imminent threat to Merced Grove, which is among three stands of giant sequoias in the park. The fire was 34 percent contained last night and remained about 10 miles from Merced Grove.

The sequoias grow on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada and can live longer than 3,000 years.
