The Federal Aviation Administration announced yesterday that it wants to fine Southwest Airlines $12 million for modifying airplanes using methods not approved by the FAA. The Dallas Morning News reports that modifications were done to prevent potential cracking of the planes’ aluminum skins, and while the repairs were later approved, Southwest completed at least 30,000 flights before the FAA gave its approval.
