Elko Fire Crew Wins Fitness Challenge

The Ruby Mountain Interagency Hotshot firefighting crew from Elko was recently awarded the BLM Interagency Hotshot Crew Fitness Challenge Trophy for having the highest average physical fitness score of 11 crews across the nation---312.16 out of a possible 400.

The challenge measures level of fitness, helps members create goals, tracks their fitness improvements and provides recognition for their efforts.

Competing for the trophy involves pushups, pull ups, sit ups, and a 1.5 mile or 3 mile run. The individual is given points for each category, which is then totaled and averaged for the crew.
