When the state of Nevada was founded, its primary industry wasn’t gambling – it was mining. But while silver and gold were widespread in Nevada’s mining community, currency wasn’t.
So state leaders pushed for a mint.
The Carson City mint opened in 1870 and minted some of the most valuable coins sought by collectors. The Battle Born collection of 111 coins sold two years ago for twelve million dollars.
