Black Bears Looking For Food

The drought is impacting more than just ranchers. The low rain falls in northern Nevada means more black bears in backyards.

Earlier this week two female bears, an 8-year old and a yearling, were caught near homes in Incline Village. The Nevada Department of Wildlife released the bears Wednesday in a forested area south of Spooner Lake Summit. When releasing the bears, the goal is to make them more fearful of people, using barking dogs, so they keep away from houses.

State wildlife officials say that it's not just bears moving into communities looking for food and water sources. More squirrels and mice as well as snakes are being seen in communities in the northern regions.
