Will Las Vegas Finally Build A Soccer Stadium?

The city of Las Vegas has taken another step toward building a soccer stadium downtown. Yesterday the city council, in a unanimous vote, gave staff the approval to hire a consultant who will create a report on the fiscal impact of a Tourism Improvement District in Symphony Park.

This district could help the city secure long-term debt in order to purchase a Major League Soccer team as well as build a stadium for that team. The Nevada Commission on Tourism still has to look at this deal and agree that most of the revenue collected would come from out-of-state tourists. Cordish Companies and Findlay Sports and Entertainment are expected to have a financial plan by September outlining how to pay for the construction of the stadium.
