Teacher Evaluations Delayed Again

A statewide performance evaluation system for public school teachers and administrators will be delayed another year.

Last week a Nevada Interim Finance Committee approved the delay. The Las Vegas Review Journal reports the decision was based on advice that more work was needed to ensure that using student achievement data in evaluations is legally defensible. The system would have given teachers and administrators one of four designations, from ineffective to highly effective. Evaluations would look at a student's performance and on administrator's observations.

The program was supposed to start a year ago.
