Nevada Group Challenging Gun Laws

A Nevada group wants to expand background checks for most gun sales. The group is called Nevadans for Background Checks. Representatives filed an initiative petition with the secretary of state's office on Friday. They want to close a loophole in federal law that only requires background checks for gun sales at licensed dealers. Instead they want to require unlicensed sales and transfers at gun shows to be conducted through a licensed dealer. The group will have to gather 101,667 signatures by Nov. 11. If they do, state lawmakers would vote to approve or reject the petition in the 2015 legislative session. If rejected, the measure would go to Nevada voters in 2016.
