Federal Officials Say There's No More Room For Horses

Federal land managers agree with ranchers that more wild horses must be rounded up; but they can't do it.

Interior Department lawyers filed a motion in federal court this week to dismiss a lawsuit by the Nevada Association of Counties and Nevada Farm Bureau Federation that demands an acceleration of wild horse roundups. Federal land managers say it can't gather more horses because there's no money for it and no more room at U.S. corrals to gather more mustangs. Federal officials also say a congressional ban on the sale of excess horses for slaughter has pushed their holding facilities to the brink of their capacity.
