Civic Leaders To Regulate Alcohol On Fremont Street

Las Vegas city leaders continue to struggle in finding the best way to deal with alcohol on Fremont Street.

Yesterday the city's recommending committee decided to hold off on presenting a bill that would govern alcohol container rules downtown. Officials say some of the wording needs to be changed, especially where the bill bans all containers of alcohol - even those unopened - purchased at liquor stores on Fremont Street. The Las Vegas Sun reports that such wording would mean anyone with a six-pack bought at one of the stores within the street could be ticketed, even if that customer was taking the alcohol off Fremont.

The committee recommended amending the ordinance and returning to the issue in the June 16th meeting.
