Bigger Trucks May Be Coming To Nevada Roadways

There's an idea on Capitol Hill that could one day allow semi-trailers to become bigger.

A couple of Nevada advocates are in Washington D.C. to try and dissuade congress from allowing that to happen. The plan is to allow truck companies to attach larger trailers to their semis.

A typical truck measures around 28 and half feet long. This includes trucks pulling two trailers. Lawmakers are considering allowing those double trailers to extend an extra 10 feet as well as allowing 53-foot trailers to increase by 17 more feet.

There are law enforcement advocates who claim this will only make roadways more dangerous. In 2012 there were 450 crashes and 18 deaths in Nevada tied to big trucks.
