Sheriff Doug Gillespie Says BLM Within Its Rights To Seize Bundy Cattle

Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie is well-known to Cliven Bundy and his supporters for having negotiated an end to the armed standoff between Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management.

In an interview with KNPR’s State of Nevada program Thursday, Gillespie said the BLM was within its rights to begin seizing cattle from Bundy for some $1 million in unpaid grazing fees. Gillespie also said Bundy lost in court and should respect the rule of law.

“I made it very clear to Cliven a number of years ago that he needs to fight this in court,” Gillespie told KNPR.

Two weeks ago, Gillespie helped broker a deal between the BLM and Bundy to end a stand-off between federal employees and armed supporters of Bundy, near Mesquite. Gillespie told KNPR that he absolutely believes there would have been bloodshed if the BLM hadn't backed down.
