Report: Las Vegas Fire Rescue Avoids The Poor

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue officials are pushing back against allegations that the agency has been selective in patient transports, going after mostly wealthier patients.

The accusations come from a report published by Applied Analysis, retained by American Medical Response. In that report there are two zip codes that are compared, both with two significantly different socioeconomic groups. According to the report the fire department transported more patients in the more affluent zip code while AMR, the private ambulance service, took more calls in the less affluent one.

Fire chief Willie McDonald calls the accusations false. This report comes on the heels of a policy change in March when the city decided it wants to use less AMR services.
