North Las Vegas Looks For Solutions To Economic Woes

A new alternative to North Las Vegas' economic challenges could be bankruptcy. The city currently faces roughly $422 million dollars in outstanding debt obligations. Threats of state receivership have lingered for the last few years. Now Mayor John Lee says a bill should be introduced in the 2015 legislative session that will allow a city to file bankruptcy. What's unknown is which lawmaker would introduce such a bill. City officials say they hope the threat of bankruptcy could bring bond holders to the table to renegotiate some of the debt. The city will present its $492 million budget next week.
