Las Vegas Cab Company Challenges Uber

A battle may be brewing between Las Vegas cab companies and the ride-sharing service Uber. Yellow Checker Star executive Bill Shranko asked Nevada Taxicab Authority officials yesterday to contact Uber and warn the company about hefty fines for operating unlicensed cabs.

Shranko claims Uber has posted online ads to recruit drivers. According to the Authority, ride-sharing companies have to comply with existing regulations to operate in the city. Uber allows users to hail a cab through a Smartphone app. In this case drivers tend to be residents who use their own cars to pick up passengers on a part-time basis. Uber officials said there are no plans to launch in Las Vegas any time soon.
