County Continues Negotiations With University Medical Center Workers

Clark county officials want to end longevity pay and are using the promise of bonuses to win over the union. The county specifically is offering a one-time $500 bonus to all current University Medical Center employees in exchange for ending the long-time practice.

Longevity pay is given to county employees that reach eight years of service, paying .57 percent of the base salary for each year of service. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Service Employees International Union Local 1107, which represents hospital workers, has yet to accept the deal. County officials say this deal could mean a savings of $150 million over 30 years. The hospital's projected operating losses could reach $121 million by 2018.
