Immigrant Detainees Face Inhumane Treatment

Last year, we brought you the story of a detention center in the City of Henderson. Local immigrant activists worked with legal scholars and law students at UNLV to document concerning practices at the facility. These activists told us that immigrants were detained without cause, treated inhumanely, and that the civil rights of some detainees were violated.

This evening, Congressman Steven Horsford will be holding ad-hoc hearings on immigration detention facilities like the one in Henderson. Among those testifying will be Fatma Marouf, a UNLV law professor who oversaw the study on the Henderson Detention Facility.
