Pedestrian fatalities occur at alarming rates in Las Vegas and in 2013, those already high numbers are up by 22 percent. Two pedestrians recently lost their lives in the intersections surrounding Booker Middle School -- 60-year-old Judge Brooks, and Elizabeth Mays, 78-years-old and confined to a wheelchair.
Las Vegas city councilman Ricki Barlow successfully advocated for a reduced speed limit in that neighborhood, as well as additional traffic signals. Are the measures enough to ensure crosswalk safety? Should other neighborhoods follow suit? And what causes pedestrian accidents?
