Technically, they’re called news racks -- but some know them as smut racks, since they contain mostly adult-themed publications showing scantily-dressed women promising escort services.
And now, a proposal by Clark County Commissioners to ban these racks on the Strip is drawing criticism from not just the rack owners, but from the American Civil Liberties Union.
Some commissioners argue that removing several hundred racks is needed to rid sidewalks of obstacles that harm pedestrian traffic.
But news rack owner Eddie Muzon thinks the ban has more to do with the content inside the racks than with pedestrian issues.
