The Huge Drop in Crime in NY City

Criminologist Franklin E. Zimring’s new book looks at a phenomenon that has barely been noticed. New York City is now the safest big city in the country. But why? Initially it seemed like an aberration but the numbers kept trending down over two decades. Now Zimring says the answer was policing – a conclusion many criminologists have resisted. Zimring will be delivering the Philip Pro Lecture at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law and we talk with him about his provocative thesis ahead of his visit.
