The City of North Las Vegas has been facing some tough times. Several rounds of budget cuts have not been enough to keep the city from a possible state takeover to get its finances back on an even keel. A state takeover would allow the imposition of extra taxes to balance the budget. The tough love is rarely applied by Carson City but state regulators have Northtown in their crosshairs. Can the city meet the budget targets? What would happen if the state does declare a severe financial emergency?
