In tough economic times, governments can be tempted by the idea of redevelopment instead of development. Commentator Robert Fielden says the two are quite different.
The state's redevelopment statute serves a purpose throughout Nevada by helping the large, urban communities as well as by assisting Nevada's smaller towns.
With better direction, redevelopment could help eradicate blighted properties and repair dilapidated structures rather than subsidizing casinos and building new city halls. Bob Fielden cites some examples.
