NLV Fire Causes Heavy Damage To Paper Product Plant

A North Las Vegas fire official says no one was injured, but an industrial paper products plant was badly damaged in a blaze that took about two hours for firefighters to contain.

Fire Capt. Cedric Williams says everyone evacuated from Clearwater Paper Corp. before firefighters arrived a little after 9 a.m. Monday to find heavy smoke billowing from the building near North 5th Street and Alexander Road.

Williams says it took about 70 firefighters from Las Vegas and North Las Vegas to bring the fire under control.

The building is closed until repairs can be made.

Williams says investigators think the fire was sparked by a mechanical malfunction, and ruled it accidental.

A damage estimate wasn't immediately made.
