Government Cites Mine Employer For August Death In Elko

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration has blamed the operators of an Elko County mine for the death of an employee last August.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the government agency said the SSX Mine had "inadequate" measures in place regarding the transport of materials.

In August 2014, 26-year-old Jason Potter was killed after a drill struck him as he was drilling.

The MSHA said management failed "to ensure that loading and transporting of materials were done in a safe manner."

Potter was an employee of Small Mine Development, LLC.

That firm was cited for the accident.
