Allegiant Engine Fire In Las Vegas Leads To Plane Evacuation

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A California-bound Allegiant flight was evacuated in Las Vegas after an engine caught fire on the tarmac, the second such fire at the airport in recent months.

An airport official said Allegiant flight 516 was preparing to take off for Fresno at McCarran International Airport about 1:20 p.m. Sunday when a fire was reported in the right engine.

The fire was quickly put out as emergency slides were deployed.

None of the 159 passengers and crew members was injured. All were bused back to the terminal.

The fire is the latest in a string of issues for the Las Vegas-based carrier in recent months and comes after a British Airways plane caught fire at the airport in September.

The airline could not immediately be reached for comment.
