CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Republicans angry that Nevada lawmakers approved a $1.1 billion tax package this spring are launching efforts to repeal part of it and kick some of its backers out of office.
A PAC called NV80 and an organization called Priorities Nevada are reviewing language for a ballot measure. They're allowed to formally launch a bid as soon as Monday.
Another group of Republicans is gearing up to launch a recall against northern Nevada Sen. Ben Kieckhefer, who voted for the tax package.
More than two-thirds of lawmakers supported Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval's tax plan. Much of the revenue will go to education initiatives targeting children in poverty, English language learners and other at-risk groups.
Repeal backers will need to gather about 55,000 signatures to get the referendum on the ballot.
