Regulators: Ride-Hailing Company Rules Could Take Months

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada transportation regulators say it will take months to create and approve policies allowing ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Lyft to legally operate in the state.

The Nevada Transportation Authority held a public meeting on Thursday morning to discuss and vote on emergency regulations for ride-hailing company applications.

Any emergency regulations would need to be approved by Gov. Brian Sandoval, who has indicated that he'll likely sign off on the fast-tracked application process.

Regulators will likely take several months to draft the full regulations, which need to be approved by an interim legislative committee before the authority can allow companies like Uber and Lyft to start picking up passengers.

If approved, ride-hailing companies could begin submitting applications to operate in the state by June 29.
