Reid To Host, US Energy Chief To Headline 8th Las Vegas 'Green Summit'

LAS VEGAS (AP) — U.S. Sen. Harry Reid says the nation's top energy official will headline an annual green power conference Aug. 24 in Las Vegas.

The Democratic Senate minority leader said Monday the theme for the eighth National Clean Energy Summit is "Powering Progress."

Along with Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, Reid says former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's top political adviser, John Podesta, will again take part.

Reid says there may be other names to announce as the event gets closer. It'll be held at the Mandalay Bay resort.

Reid began the conference in 2008, and it usually draws top Democratic political and clean energy business leaders.

Reid calls it inevitable that the world will turn to solar, wind and geothermal energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit global climate change.
