CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Union members say they're protesting for the third time this legislative session in hopes of keeping pressure on Nevada lawmakers to support pro-labor policies.
The AFL-CIO is organizing simultaneous rallies Thursday afternoon in Las Vegas and Carson City. The events aren't coinciding with hearings on any particular issues, but the group is challenging bills that restrict collective bargaining, alter public employee pension plans and further limit the use of prevailing wages, which are a sort of minimum wage for contractors.
Many of those Republican-backed proposals aimed at cutting costs for governments survived a Tuesday bill passage deadline and remain in play two-thirds of the way through the session.
Union spokeswoman Rachel Rekowski said union members are paying attention and ready to fight back now and through the 2016 elections.
