LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's Democratic state Sen. Ruben Kihuen has announced his bid for Congress.

The district includes urban North Las Vegas and a large swath of rural, central Nevada.

The seat is now held by U.S. Rep. Cresent Hardy, who was elected last year in an upset over former Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford.

Horsford has said he won't run for his old seat in 2016.

Kihuen now serves as a state Senator representing the state's 10th District.
