Senate Further Vets Sandoval Tax; Vote Expected This Month

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Senate is expected to vote on Governor Sandoval's business license tax plan by the end of March.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson said Thursday that the state Senate was on schedule to hold a vote on SB 252 by the end of the month.

The full Senate met again Thursday to discuss technical concerns with the proposal, which is projected to raise around $437 million over two years to help fund K-12 education programs.

Sandoval spoke before a parade of former governors and business leaders who testified in favor of the bill on Wednesday during a 10-hour marathon hearing.

Opponents say the bill would stifle economic growth and is too similar to the margins tax ballot initiative that was overwhelmingly defeated by voters in November.
