LAS VEGAS (AP) - Tourism officials say 3.1 million people visited Las Vegas in February, up nearly 1 percent compared to the same month last year.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority released its latest statistics Tuesday showing convention goers boosted the number of visitors despite fewer shows.
The agency says the area's hotel occupancy rate, the number of rooms occupied in February, dropped slightly to 84.7 percent.
While occupancy was higher in downtown Las Vegas, the casino-hotels on Fremont Street saw their average daily rates drop 14 percent to $57.74. Las Vegas Strip rates rose 1.8 percent to $125.30.
Despite the visitor increase, gambling revenue in the area declined in February to $796.8 million in Clark County which includes the Strip, downtown and neighborhood casinos.
