House Bill Would Extended Proposed I-11 In Arizona, Nevada

PHOENIX (AP) — A bill proposed in the U.S. House would extend the proposed Interstate 11 into northern Nevada and southern Arizona.

Congress in 2012 officially designated a corridor between Phoenix in central Arizona and Las Vegas in southern Nevada as the future I-11.

The House bill was introduced by Reps. Paul Gosar and Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona and Cresent Hardy and Dina Titus of Nevada. A companion Senate bill also has been introduced in the Senate.

Gosar and Hardy said in a statement released Wednesday that an expanded I-11 would provide an economic boon to the West by connecting shipping ports on the U.S.-Mexico border with existing highway connections to Canada.

Funding for building I-11 has not been identified, but some segments already have been built as improvements to existing highways.
